We are looking for homes for four kittens. They will be ready for new homes by the end of the month. They are friendly and they have been using the litter box on the front porch. They are very cute!
We are also looking for a home for their mother, because she hunted down a chicken. (Maybe it was not her fault -- maybe the possum killed it and she ate the leftovers.) She catches mice too. The mother has lived as a barn cat but is very affectionate and strolled in through our ripped screen door. Yesterday she walked in and jumped on my lap

Elizabeth, do you think any of these cats (and kittens), who have been living outside so much (even raised outside!) could ever be happy as strictly-indoor cats? My last cat of several years (really Dad's cat) was a strictly-indoor cat her whole life. She never begged to go outside at all. It was actually kind of a relief, because I didn't have to worry about her getting run over or lost, and the worry about catching disease was much less. In the country, I don't think I would worry quite as much, what with less overall traffic (although it sounds like it can still be dangerous for cats, along the highway, from your reports). There aren't, by any chance, any kittens that have grown up mostly indoors (for some reason), are there? I'm not sure Dad wants a cat, anyway; he mentioned that you called about it, but sounded pretty undecided. I tried to suggest that if some of the kittens would just end up going to shelters, anyway, they really might be better at Dad's place, even if they have to be declawed (which Dad really doesn't like, and I don't, either, but he's so worried about the furniture....). Maybe email me, if you have any info, suggestions along the lines of indoor-v-outdoor/claws.
ReplyDeleteThanks, and good luck!
(BTW, how the heck are you after that possum bite?? Dad also mentioned that you might have to get a REALLY, RIDICULOUSLY expensive shot, and that the "experts" couldn't determine whether the possum was rabid or not....)
Peace. M
